One-on-one or small group sessions with coaching staffs designed to help coaches improve their own abilities in leadership style, variable focus control, team building, player assessment, teaching methodology and information transfer.
Individual Performance Enhancement
Evaluating the athlete’s current mental skills, developing and implementing a sport specific training program aimed at improving specific mental skills. Sessions are usually one-on-one. Collaboration of coaches and family members included when appropriate. Techniques include relaxation training, imagery, self-talk, pre-practice and pre-game preparation, goal setting, motivation, recovering from injuries, etc.
Seminars and Workshops
Group educational programs for athletes, coaches and administrators focused on specific topics. Small group sessions are conducted on-site upon request. Example: “Mental Skills Training for Skiers”, a two-part workshop for up to ten competitive alpine ski racers during the off-season.
What clients have to say about training with Thrive.
In Their Words
“Thrive: Excellence is Sport Performance was a worthwhile investment for the two programs we had Derrek work with in Marysville. The mental aspect in sport is a very important piece in the coaching spectrum and Derrek does a very nice job of teaching kids to flush what just happened and focus on what is important at the moment. The athletes and coaches came away with life-long learnings that could go well beyond their world of sport.”
Greg G. Erickson,Director of Athletics Marysville School District
"In our work with Derrek this past season, the boys found lots of benefit in BRIEF (pre practice routine) and WIN (real time goal setting training). These topics really seemed to resonate with the players and they were doable on a daily basis in the limited time we had to practice. The court and classroom sessions were both excellent. It is great for kids to hear from an expert in the area and we found it meant more at times coming from a fresh voice."
Bary Gould,Marysville Pillchuck Boys Basketball Coach
"Through Derrek’s mental toughness training, pre-practice preparation, match scripting, and visualizing routines I felt much more prepared and ready to start my season than ever before!"
Julianne Sitch,Former U-21 US International, University of Chicago Asst. Women’s Soccer Coach, retired Chicago Red Stars player
"We work daily to find opportunities and assets for the athletes we work with each spring and summer. Derrek represents yet another incredible opportunity for education and mastery in sport for our players."
